Insurance roles – risk manager

Role Summary

The Risk Manager is responsible for the delivery of risk management services to clients and is focused on the continuous development and application of best practice standards to ensure the focus of risk management is elevated to the most senior management levels in client organisations.

Key accountabilities

  • Deliver risk advisory, strategy & emerging risk, project risk management and risk culture services to clients
  • Promote and deliver the most appropriate and relevant risk service to contribute to the enhanced risk management capability of clients
  • Work closely internal staff to increase awareness of the risk management strategies and initiatives that are developed and applied for client value
  • Seek opportunities to build client’s risk management capability and practices of risk management in client organisations through development of tools and templates and delivery of specialist training sessions
  • Collate and analyse reports to determine a set of recommendations and strategies to enhance client risk performance and capability
  • Develop consolidated information from reports and interrogate the data for themes, trends and lessons
  • Act in accordance with risk and OHS policies and procedures
  • Identify and report/escalate any risks (opportunities & threats) or observed OHS issues, ensuring that safe work practices are performed at all times


  • Solid understanding and conceptual knowledge of leading risk management practices
  • Client relationship management skills with the expertise and confidence to encourage clients to adopt recommended courses of action
  • Interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills with the ability to positively engage an audience
  • A professional consulting services approach to the business, with demonstrated commercial acumen and superior intellect and skills in business analysis


  •  Tertiary qualifications in Business, Commerce, Finance, Accounting or a relevant discipline
  • Qualifications in Risk Management or significant commercial exposure to the application of best practice in Risk Management
  • Membership of relevant professional bodies in risk management (e.g. Risk Management Institute of Australasia)
