Alcohol and office functions

There are a LOT of events in the Insurance Industry which involve alcohol, within your organisations and in the Industry as a whole (we run quite a few of them ourselves!). Whilst you are generally encouraged to enjoy yourself, it's probably not a great idea to get full of booze and dance on the boardroom table (or worse).

Few things are as career limiting as a drunken chat with someone you report to (or worse, their boss) which starts with something like "why are you so quiet tonight?" or "tell me what you really think?". Whilst the occasional silly comment can usually be forgiven (if not forgotten) general drunken buffoonery, snogging with a work mate or crying to the CEO whilst singing off-key Lady GaGa would be considered a no no.

It also goes without saying that drinking during the day is something to be cautious about. Long boozy lunches on a weekly basis are largely a thing of the past, however if and when these happen it is important to make sure you plan ahead if you are intending to go back to the office after lunch. The only thing worse than being boozed at an office function is being boozed at the office.

It is a good idea to familiarise yourself with your organisation's policies with respect to alcohol consumption. Like most things in life, moderation is key.
