Insurance Industry – risk engineer/surveyor

The risk engineer (sometimes known as a risk surveyor) is a resource engaged by either the broker or the insurer to asses a risk, including its exposures and compile a report detailing the overall acceptability and quality of a risk. Most Insurers have internal risk engineers to review risks as pert of the renewal or new business processes, however there are an increasing number of independent firms that provide this service to brokers, allowing them to market a piece of business more comprehensively.

A risk engineer will also identify areas of a risk that require improvement in order to make it more attractive to insurers, thereby securing better insurance terms (such as a cheaper premium, lower deductible/excess or better coverage) for the client.
